Each rug is made 100% by hand in Nepal with wool from the Himalayas, carefully selected, carded and spun by Tibetan craftsmen and its 15 knots per square centimetre give it an unusual character and feel. Odegard rugs are distinguished by their unique design, inspired by nature or traditional Tibetan motifs, as well as by the depth of colour and variety of shades used.

Prior to establishing her company in New York in 1987, Stephanie Odegard worked for the United Nations and the Government of Nepal as an advisor to the emerging carpet industry. She is a board member of Goodweav, a carpet industry foundation that maintains the only recognized certification program to ensure that carpets are not made by children; its funds are used for the education and welfare of children. All Odegard rugs carry the Goodweave label.

By combining traditional manufacturing techniques with contemporary design and high quality standards Odegard has enabled the transformation of traditional forms of textile art and craft from developing countries into commercially viable crafts. Odegard is committed to passing on its ethical values and has an exclusive distribution strategy. Odegard rugs adorn the floors of the prestigious J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, the Metropolitan Museum in New York and the homes of Julianne Moore in New York and Robert Redford in Aspen.
