BIOGRAPHY

LEBOVICI Yonel

Yonel Lebovici was born in Paris in 1937. He first earned a degree in aeronautics and another from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués, then took drawing courses at La Grande Chaumière. In 1969, he opened his own studio and created various pieces of furniture and other objects, including the famous “Satellite” lamp made of methacrylate disks, in the center of which was placed an openwork chrome-plated steel globe that diffused incandescent light through three openings and through the thickness of the disks. Thanks to his industrial studies, the technical execution of his “functional sculptures” (as he liked to call his creations) was perfect. In 1970, he had a booth at the Saint-Ouen flea market and showed his pieces there. He was a member of Atelier A and the MOB 6 group, both created by François Arnal. He continued working until his death in 1998.
